Quick 2 Ingredients Homemade Hot Chocolate made with only milk and bittersweet chocolate for a simple yet intense chocolate flavor!
- 1 liter (1000ml) whole milk
- 15ml (1 tablespoon) pure vanilla extract, optional
- 300g bittersweet chocolate, finely chopped
- Sugar, to taste
- whipped cream, for serving ( optional)
In a small heatproof bowl, add the chopped chocolate and set aside. Heat ¼ of the milk in a medium saucepan and pour over the chopped chocolate. Whisk until creamy and smooth.
Add the rest of the milk to the same saucepan and pour the chocolate mixture over it.
Whisk until well incorporated and heat until the mixture reaches a light simmer, but don’t bring it to a full-on boil. (Boiling milk changes the chocolate structure and gives it a different flavor) whisk in the vanilla extract, if using, and take the hot chocolate off the heat.
Taste and adjust sweetness with sugar to taste, if needed. Divide among mugs, top with marshmallows, or a dollop of whipped cream. Enjoy!
