  • Combine the crushed tomatoes, granulated garlic, oregano, vinegar, salt, sugar, black pepper, pepper flakes, oil, and basil in a medium mixing bowl. If using canned plum tomatoes, pass the tomatoes through a food mill fitted with the coarse disc into a mixing bowl. Alternatively, you may pulse the tomatoes briefly, using quick on/off bursts in the food processor. See Notes.

How to Store & Re-Heat
To store: The pizza sauce, allow it to cool completely to room temperature. Transfer the sauce to an airtight container or jar with a tight-fitting lid. Store it in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. Ensure the container is sealed properly to prevent air exposure and maintain freshness. If you have excess sauce, you can freeze it in freezer-safe containers or resealable bags for up to 3 months. Thaw the frozen sauce in the refrigerator overnight before using.
To reheat: Pizza sauce doesn't typically require reheating since it is used cold or at room temperature. However, if you prefer to warm the sauce, you can do so gently on the stovetop. Place the desired amount of sauce in a small saucepan over low heat. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking and heat until warmed through. Be careful not to overheat or boil the sauce, which may change the texture and flavor. Once warmed, use the sauce immediately as a topping for your pizza.
Make Ahead
You can easily make the pizza sauce ahead of time and store it for later use. After preparing the sauce according to the recipe, let it cool to room temperature. Once cooled, transfer the sauce to an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 5 days. The flavors will continue to meld and develop over time, enhancing the taste of the sauce. When ready, remove it from the refrigerator and use it as desired for your pizzas. Making the pizza sauce beforehand saves you preparation time when you're ready to make your pizzas and fully allows the flavors to develop for a delicious homemade sauce.
How to Freeze
To freeze pizza sauce, place it in a freezer-safe container and store it in the freezer for up to 3 months. Then, when ready to use it, thaw it in the refrigerator overnight and use it as you would normally.
